Crude oil price has dropped a LOT in recent time on per barrel bases and also the fact that it is reflected on per gallon price on gas pump. If I want to put my money on belief that it can not stay so low for too long and want to take advantage of low oil price, what is the best way to invest/trade? Is there any Oil index that I can buy/sell as share/fund? Or do I need to do it as commodity trading and open a commodity account?
Can someone please throw light on it? I am not interested in crude oil explorer companies like XOM etc but more interested to invest something that moves based on crude oil price. Please help

Help! What are good investments today? I want only to keep the value of my money?
Filed Under Personal Finance | 2 Comments
Help, I am losing all my hard earned savings! My portfolio:
30% in cash. Interest rate is lower than inflation so cash steadily loses its value. Add dollar’s slide abroad and you have over 10% loss p.a.
10% in Icelandic currency that yields 15%. Perhaps the interest rate is higher than inflation but in the last two weeks alone that currency lost 20% to US$! Experts are saying it will drop further.
15% in stocks. Invested in an index fund which is now down 10% in dollar terms (20% real terms). And I read that stocks are still over-valued.
5% in gold and oil through a forex broker. Volatility is so high that my deposit got wiped out twice even though commodities are going up long term. They are now very expensive, should I still hold them and hope to make up the loses?
40% in property. I purchased it a year ago in cash, no mortgage. It’s value is dropping since then in $ terms and in real terms even more…
Seems there are no good investments there days. How come?

SOme Honesty?
Filed Under Other - Business & Finance | 1 Comment
Is it financialy beneficial to purchase commodities such as gold and platinum and resell when the prices fluctuates where a profit can be made. Even with respect to foreign exchange.
Is the stockmarket gambling for the private individual or is it a real option? Example: They say if you want to make money on the stock market it needs to be long term and it needs to be invested in so called blue chip companies where risk is low and so in turn is the reward. So would it not be better to contain ones money in the money market fund where a guaranteed interest exists and there is no risk involved , with the returns equaling those of the abovementioned low risk long term investments. Youre thoughts pls(Pls also bear in mind that this is with respect to private finances and not of macro-economical scenarios)

Hedge Fund New York, September 08, 2008 — Opalesque, the world’s largest subscription-based publisher on alternative investments, has launched a free, daily publication covering the global commodities markets. The new Opalesque Commodities Briefings follow the popular Opalesque “Briefing” format and offer a quick and complete oversight on commodities and commodity-related news and research in 26 detailed categories. The service can be subscribed as daily email newsletter or by RSS feed.
Commodities Conundrum Surprises Even Hedge Fund Titans
Commodities are down significantly from the highs set in March (Gold, Wheat) and July (Oil).
The outlook for this sector was spectacular until just a few months ago. The greatest impact was seen in the dramatic rise of oil, which soared +70% in just five months only to turn in its tracks during July. But now across the board, hedge funds and investment houses are selling commodities. Even famed hedge fund titan Dwight Anderson has shuttered his Ospraie hedge fund. The $2.8 bln fund enjoyed average annualized returns of +15% from its launch in February 2000 through the end of 2007. But the volatile commodities markets of 2008 saw Ospraie drop -39%, of which -27% was dealt out in August alone.
What is happening to the much talked about “commodities super cycle”? Has sentiment turned against commodities? Is the Dollar the culprit? What is going on with inflation? What is the effect on the global economic downturn on commodities? And how about agriculture and soft commodities – don’t we have a “global food crisis”?
Free Daily Updates In 26 Detailed News Categories
The new Opalesque Commodities Briefing focuses on this increasingly important sector and offers free daily updates covering:

Unauthorized income for H1B workers?
Filed Under Immigration | 2 Comments
Yesterday, I was reading some article on web which made me concerned. What exactly is unauthorized income for H1B workers in USA. Is self-employment or making money on internet unauthorized income?
Are these considered as unauthorized income:
1)Lotto winnings
2)Sweepstakes winnings
3)Poker winnings
4)Stock/Commodity Investment Profits
5)Google Adsense Income
6)Affiliate Marketing Income
7)eBay Auction Income
8)Freelance Programmer Income
I don’t want to hamper my Green Card processing in any way. Is it true that I can’t file any 1099-MISC or W-2G form in my tax return. Even gambling win requires me to file one of those.
I didn’t have any income from any of these till now but came very close to claiming a Sweepstakes win. I was planning to invest in Silver. But I don’t want to create any problem so if its not allowed I will stay away from it and anything like that.
Thanks

I am a licensed Contractor in CA with a C-27 license.
The amount of jobs I am bidding on is 25% of the number I bid last year and those that I am bidding are just checking price and I price at below industry standards. I am driving alot less using much less gas. I am not buying materials (30% of last years amount). That is reflected in the commodity markets. Oil is going down. Why? (Note above) Figure it out? Yet the market goes higher 2 days in a row???
Contractors are certainly not doing the investing.
We are in hibernation hoping to wait it out.
We have no confidence it will turn around soon because we remember the 90’s when it all went flat. Problem is the fundamentals are MUCH worse than we remember in the 1990’s.
Look at the amount of jobs we represent. I am not hiring anyone. Abu Dhabi throws 7 billion at Citicorp??? Means nothing if no one is building or remodeling! And they are throwing the weakest dollar in US history so why in the world are people investing???
When things do improve???
How do you we know that will happen??
We are in debt to other countries much more than we ever have before.
The Euro is much stronger than ever before.
They now buy all the cheap goods from China like we do. China and India buy European goods because the quality is better. I know I only buy Stihl or Husqvarna. We make nothing here in the US.
What reason will the dollar have to strengthen?
Pressure to unhinge from the dollar is stronger than ever before.
7 billion dollars in 5 years will be worth
about 4 billion Euros.
And thats if we are lucky.
Economies like Russia and countries with little exposure to the US economy will prosper.
Russian Rubles are difficult to find to trade in but I have $300 invested in them with a little in gold and silver. I hope to invest more in them but rent is my main expense now. Hard to invest with $2000 a month coming in from small jobs.

24% Returns in commodity investment?
Filed Under Investing | 4 Comments
Hi guys, i’m a commodity invester considering pumping at least 150grand for a gold investment program. The returns is 2% per month however, its mandatory in the contract that i have to invest for a minimum 2-4months.The payment is made in cash and once the contract is over, i pass back the gold and i ‘ll get back my 150grand + (2% /- ) interest.
Well, Not just the 2% per month, the direct gold-in-hand is another attractive feature of the program.
Anyone tell me, what is your point of veiw..
Current situation of the commodity market too.
