Question 1:
With the bank: Mutual funds, GIC’s, RRSP’s.
Outside of the bank: Stocks, bonds, options, warrants (stocks with a “shelf life” used to leverage gains/losses)
In real estate: Renting profits, gains on appreciation, house flipping.
Real estate on the bigger scale: Subdivision creation, multi-family living, office space leasing.
Question 2:
If you want to simply better understand investing the internet may be your best resource, you can find many things out this way and get into contact with people who can help you learn. Keep in mind that this will also depend on which one of these types of investing you would like to go after. If it is market investing (stocks and such) I would get in contact with a broker and let them teach you as you go.
As far as starting a business, I personally would not recommend going to university at all. If you want to know how to run a business then get a college business admin diploma. The reason I say this is because the diploma will take you 2 years and cost you much less money but teach you everything you need to know. Getting a degree is done at a university and would take 5+ years, cost much more money and throw in a little extra that quite frankly, you probably don’t need. University tends to overlap quite a bit.
Best advice, get the diploma quick, it will be condensed and give you what you want, and then you can get going with your business!!
